Acrylic paint, graphite, powdered charcoal, and lemons on vellum
36’’x 168’’
The title of this work refers to the saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" which advocates for the consumption of apples. By extension, "if one eats healthy foods, one will remain in good health and will not need to see the doctor often." Lemons are used as a replacement for apples in this popular proverb as a reference to Bryant’s daily consumption of lemons. This piece acts as an homage to the importance of simple ingredients and their ability to act as a vessel for their many uses in everyday life.
