Table d’huîtres Cancale, 2022
38’’ x 22.25’’ x 18.25’’
We were bound on the wheel of an endless conversation.
Inside this shell, a tide waiting for someone to enter.
A monologue waiting for you to interrupt it.
A man wading into the surf. The dialogue of the rock with the breaker.
The wave changed instantly by the rock; the rock changed by the wave returning over and over.
The dialogue that lasts all night or a whole lifetime.
A conversation of sounds melting constantly into rhythms.
A shell waiting for you to listen.

Stack laminated Ash and White Oak finished with Danish oil
Inspired by the oysters of Cancale, France, this table encompasses a sense of love and longing. It revolves around the notion that change is inevitable, it matters how we handle and process that change.
The table top is detachable from the frame. When removed, the frame is exposed and the two pieces are able to be transported individually. Due to the process of stack lamination, both the table top and frame carry an excessive amount of weight. This table is meant to take up space and present a grounded presence.
Speaking on process, the table top was power carved to the desired form. The top surface of the table top was finished to 220 grit and the underbelly was finished to 150 grit to allow for the textural difference that would be present in a literal oyster.
